Assisted by his loved ones, a passionate animal advocate was able to turn his vision into reality by establishing his own animal sanctuary called the EduPaçoca Institute, which has been open for a month now.
My goal is to improve the world we live in, and I am convinced that little gestures we make every day, like providing food for a homeless dog or sending letters to senior citizens, hold the power that many people pray for.
Edward shared that he was able to fulfill one of his lifelong aspirations this year – establishing his own institute. With the help of his supporters, he was able to rent a space for it. He makes it a point to visit his institute every day, and sometimes he uses alternative ways of transportation such as hitchhiking or cycling for about 30 kilometers. This endeavor has exceeded his expectations and brought him much joy.
According to him, his aim is not to receive a payment for a puppy but to find a permanent home for them. He wishes to convey that even if the puppies are not adopted, he will take care of them and provide them with a loving home throughout their life.
According to the young man, the idea for the shelter came to him in March when he felt a strong urge to assist other stray dogs. He noticed that more and more homeless dogs were appearing every day while feeding them, so he gathered ten dogs who were interested in joining him. Because he resides in a frigid area, most street animals perish from hypothermia or other illnesses. The young man decided to lend a hand because there are no municipal rules that provide support for animals in need. The shelter is famous for its play area, where rescued dogs engage in various pastimes before being adopted.
Edward shares his vision of the Institute being more than just a place of refuge for dogs. He desires for it to be a happy and healthy environment where they can also engage in recreational activities, with the ultimate goal of getting them adopted. Eduardo recognizes that most of the dogs are traumatized upon arrival, and he promises to handle their fragile hearts with utmost care. Through trust-building exercises, Eduardo establishes a strong bond with the dogs, assuring them that he will always be there for them.
According to Edward, he noticed that people who fed animals on the streets had the same emotions as us. My canine companion, Baiano, often brings me presents such as leaves, bottles, and dishes. This prompted me to create a fresh space that caters to his needs. The nursery is filled with vibrant colors, fun toys, enjoyable activities, music, dancing, themed parties, and birthday celebrations.
Eduardo has saved a total of 22 dogs and four cats, who are presently being taken care of at the animal shelter. Even though he desires to save more dogs, his organization is currently limited and can only provide assistance to those who are in dire need.
According to Eduardo, “The most challenging part is determining who to rescue and who to leave behind on the streets.” Since there’s still limited space, he can’t accommodate everyone who needs help.
But for now, he’s content seeing the joy, trust, and gratefulness in the eyes of the animals that he can assist. The institute is a realization of his dream, but it’s a massive responsibility, and Eduardo is confident in his capacity to keep working.
