Canadian beagle wins ‘Best in Show’ at Westminster ‎

A Beagle from British Columbia’s Interior takes home top honors at the prestigious Westminster dog show in New York City. Miss P, owned by Lori Crandlemire from Enderby, BC, was crowned “Best in Show” at the Westminster Kennel Club Show at Madison Square Garden. Beating out tough competition like an Old English sheepdog, Skye terrier, and Portuguese water dog in the final round, the four-year-old pup, who is the grand-niece of a former winner, also triumphed in the hound category the previous night.

Competing against 2,700 canines from 15 countries, this year’s event marked a significant win for Miss P, who is only the second beagle to ever win the prestigious competition. Another Canadian contender, a poodle named Flame from Toronto, also made it to the “Best in Show” finals.

Following her victory, Miss P, also known as Payton, is set to retire from the show circuit and start a new chapter as a champion and as a mom. In an interview with CTV’s News Channel, Crandlemire expressed her excitement over the win but also admitted that the attention has been a bit overwhelming. While handler Will Alexander shared that the beagle’s show name came from a judge who once referred to her as the “divine Miss P.”

For those who missed the live broadcast, the Westminster Kennel Club Show will be airing again on Animal Planet today and on Discovery this Saturday for those who want to catch a glimpse of Miss P’s stunning performance.
