In his second season at the helm at United, Louis van Gaal spent heavily, bringing in a host of big-name players in the hope of getting United back into title competition. Newcomers include Memphis Depay, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Anthony Martial and Morgan Schneiderlin.
Schneiderlin is part of a hugely talented The Saints squad that finished seventh in the Premier League the previous season, keeping many of their players in the interest of some of Europe’s biggest clubs.
One of them was Mane, who scored 10 goals in his first season in the south of England, and Van Gaal was keen to lure him to United. “Sadio was a man from day one, you could tell he had something,” Schneiderlin said .

Schneiderlin wanted to bring Mane to MU
“I remember when I signed, Louis Van Gaal asked me about the possibility of him going to Manchester United and I tried my best to get him to come, but he wanted to stay for another year and go to Liverpool. “
“I think the choice he made was fantastic because he came into the unstoppable Liverpool squad at the time. He made the very right choice in his career. .”
