The heart-stopping rescue of a baby elephant and its mum, who became trapped in a muddy pit in Thailand, has been captured on video.

Its protective mother elephant kept watch nearby for hours, stopping rescuers from getting close enough to help.
Vets were called in to save the pair and darted mum with a tranquillizer to get the rescue underway, but the mission quickly turned life and death when she lost consciousness and fell head first into the pit.
Her heart stopped, forcing rescuers to race against the clock to revive her and save the baby, who was luckily able to feed while trapped beneath its mum.
Once the mum was pulled free, the rescue team faced a new challenge – reviving an adult elephant.
Vets performed CPR while sitting on the animal to bring her back to life.
