A peculiar cloud resembling a flying saucer from Jordan Peele’s recent sci-fi film “Nope” has recently captured the attention of locals and tourists in California, USA. Witnesses claim they could hardly believe their eyes as the cloud slowly emerged in the skies near Palm Springs. Images of the UFO-like cloud quickly circulated across social media platforms.
“It looked exactly like the images you’d see in sci-fi movies I’ve watched before,” commented one observer.
Similar scenes unfolded in the Coachella Valley. Dr. James Danoff-Burg, director of conservation at the Living Desert Zoo and Gardens in Palm Desert, mentioned that while guiding a group of tourists, they were surprised to find everyone looking up at the sky upon spotting these UFO-shaped clouds.
However, experts suggest it’s a type of cloud that commonly appears in the natural reserve of the zoo. This phenomenon is known as a lenticular cloud, described as “stacked, pancake-like formations.”
“That day was special as we witnessed a rare occurrence of a triple-layered lenticular cloud,” Danoff-Burg said.
Meteorologist Cindy Palmer from the US National Weather Service previously explained that these lens-shaped clouds, often seen during winter months, form as winds blow over hills and mountains, causing the moist air to condense and create clouds in the Gulf region.
Palmer explained: “People can see that during the winter, winds tend to blow in one direction. As the wind moves over the mountain, the air rises, condenses, and forms clouds.”
