The dog recognized for having the longest tongue in the world, according to the Guinness World Records

Zoey, a 3-year-old dog from Louisiana, has been officially recognized by the Guinness World Records as the dog with the longest tongue in the world, measuring at 12.7 cm.

Drew and Sadie Williams, a couple from Louisiana, adopted Zoey, a Labrador and German Shepherd mix, three years ago. Drew mentioned on June 5th that in November of the previous year, they submitted documentation about Zoey’s long tongue to the Guinness World Records organization. By March, Zoey was recognized as the living dog with the longest tongue in the world.

According to Drew, in June 2020, they saw a post on Facebook from someone wanting to give away a dog, and that’s when they adopted Zoey. Even at 5 weeks old, they noticed how long Zoey’s tongue protruded from her mouth. As Zoey grew and met more people, everyone remarked, “Wow, that’s a really long tongue,” Drew recalled.

He once measured Zoey’s tongue with an 11.43 cm butter knife. At that time, the knife was slightly longer. Eventually, someone suggested to Drew that Zoey’s tongue might break the record for length. He checked the Guinness website and found the record for the living dog with the longest tongue vacant after Mochi, a dog from South Dakota with an 18.58 cm tongue, had passed away.

Sadie and Drew decided to submit their documentation to Guinness. They took Zoey to a veterinarian to measure her tongue. Afterward, they submitted a video, photographs, witness statements, and all necessary evidence to Guinness.

In February, Guinness recognized Bisbee, a dog from Tucson, Arizona, with a new record for a 9.49 cm long tongue. However, the Williams couple believed Zoey would surpass Bisbee’s record.

After Guinness officially acknowledged Zoey’s record in March, the couple celebrated by buying Zoey some toys. Zoey enjoys activities like fetching balls, chasing squirrels, riding in the car, swimming, and eating.

Sadie and Drew framed Zoey’s Guinness certificate and displayed it above the fireplace, next to a picture of Zoey showing off her long tongue.

“Everyone who visits is amazed,” Drew shared. “The certificate always becomes a topic of conversation. Not everyone gets to see a certificate like that firsthand. It’s really exciting.”
