Kaye Fiorello was traveling on a Tennessee highway on a hot day when she noticed a highway patrol officer parked right next to the lane. She didn’t think much of it at the time, but it turned out to be an excellent observation.
Fiorello continued on her way when she noticed something else that made her stop.
“About a mile later, this little dog’s head appeared on the side of the road,” Fiorello told The Dodo. “It seemed to have been there for some time.
Fiorello wanted to help the abandoned puppy and knew exactly where to look.
Fiorello turned around and walked back the way he had come, remembering the officer he had seen. He drove up behind the officer and told him about the dog, not understanding that he had changed both of their lives forever with a single interaction.
“He asked her where she was and ran after her,” Fiorello explained. “I followed him, pointing to the area.”
When they arrived, they noticed that the dog seemed injured and scared. He was initially suspicious of the officer’s approach, but he offered him water and food in an effort to gain his trust. But he didn’t stop there.
He sat next to the puppy after calling animal control for help, grabbing an umbrella to protect her from the sun.
Fiorello was immensely moved by her devotion to the dog.
He told me, ‘I’m going to sit here until she trusts me,’” Fiorrello said, adding that the dog sensed the police officer’s kind nature. “She seemed to give the sigh of a satisfied dog.” And those eyes were like day and night. They made contact. It was quite effective. “I was crying tears of joy for that girl.”
And it turns out that this relationship would not be temporary.
Fiorello had to continue on his way before assistance arrived, but later learned that the dog had been rescued safely and was being treated at the veterinarian. He had a broken hip, but it wasn’t something she had to deal with alone.
For that stretch, the officer would also be next to her.
A week after being found on the side of the road, injured and alone, the puppy found a home. The officer made the decision to retain her permanently.h-a-n-h
“Adopted! He finally got it today! Fiorello explained. “She Her name is Princess and she will be home in a couple of weeks, maybe two weeks after the vet.”h-a-n-h
<Princess’ happy ending couldn’t have been more perfect for Fiorello, whose drive to find treatment for the injured pup resulted in the pup’s entire life changing forever.
